Denna Brown is a long-standing Resident of Courtyard Apartments at Riverview. Mother of 11, Mrs. Brown has built a very large foundation of family. However, she always made time to serve her community.
Mrs. Brown is an activist serving on the Southwark Development Corporation Board of Directors {SDC}, position Treasurer. SDC is a non-profit organization that serves the community, advocating for all the Residents of the Courtyard Community under the leadership of The Philadelphia Housing Authority {PHA}. The Resident leadership is also known as Courtyard Resident Council.
It is our honor to recognize this wonderful woman for all her outstanding work. Mrs. Brown started volunteering in the SDC office over 10+ years never wanting anything in return. She enjoyed sitting in the office taking calls, helping with programming, making sure the Senior needs were met, every year wrapping hundreds of toys for our family Residents. Denna Brown was in the fight to get new management to the point of taking her chair to block off Washington Avenue as we protested for respect and change.
Mrs. Brown also sat in countless meetings with PHA making sure that Courtyard received any new information. She sat in numerous meetings with The Michaels Organization and PHA during the RAD Renovation assuring all 405 residents got newly renovated housing in 2017.
When Covid 19 hit Denna Brown did not hesitate to jump in to help, assisting getting food to all the Residents /Community. Going against her family worries about her health, she still came down to set up and give food out a true front liner.
We are proud to have this extremely wonderful woman on our team and in our hearts.
Thank you to her family for sharing her with us and most of all thank you Mrs. Denna Brown for all your services.
Sincerely Team Courtyard.
