Jackie's Garden

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Jackie’s Garden, also known as Montgomery Townhouses, was Better Tomorrows’ flagship site, implementing social services in 1989 that became the model for a new way of approaching affordable housing across the country.
Jackie’s Garden was the first Neighborhood Network Center, providing computer services to residents along with job training and financial literacy programs.
Jackie’s Garden had one of the first Resident Associations and the members remain active to this day, including one of the original members, Miss Shirley.
The residence is located in North Philadelphia between 20th and Berks Streets along Montgomery Avenue.
Jackie’s Garden is close to Temple University and is nestled among an area undergoing revitalization. The residents are predominantly African American.
With a robust history of engagement, Social Service Coordination continues to help residents on the path to self-sufficiency.
